Identity Language Program

What is the Identity Language Program?

The Identity Language Program is an elective course that we are piloting at the FISW campus to provide students with the opportunity to study their identity language with the goal of developing all language domains (reading, writing, listening and speaking) during the regular school day.

Learners often identify with a language that is either spoken at home or was part of the educational experience of a country in which they previously lived and no longer have access to. We would like to change that by offering this alternative program to meet the individual needs of our students.

Who can participate in the Identity Language Program?
The identity language program is only available for students going into G7 and G8. Please contact Dr Majeski if you are in G6 and feel this program would be suitable for you."

What languages are offered?

Currently we have students at FIS enrolled in the following languages: Italian, Swedish, Mandarin, Dutch, Danish, Japanese and Portuguese.  However, we are committed to adding more languages based on interest.

How does this fit into my child’s school day?

Currently, at FISW, students have the option of taking Spanish, French as a Foreign Language on site.  As students select electives for the 2023-26 school year, they will be able to choose Spanish or French as a Foreign Language or be a part of the Identity Language Program.  This will be in addition to their required German classes.

This will be a self-paced, independent study course.  We will have a faculty member on-site assisting with goal setting, liaising with our contracted language schools, and providing feedback to students.

Are there any additional costs associated with the Identity Language Program?

Yes.  Given that we will be contracting with language academies and tutors, an additional cost of 1630€ per year will be billed to families.
