Athletic Department Athletic Code

FISW complies with the policies of the International Schools Sports Tournament (ISST), the Sports Council for International Schools (SCIS) and the U.S. Department ofDefense Schools (DoDDS) and adopts their rules and regulations for all athletic competitions. The FISW student athlete and a parent/guardian must sign and agree to this Athletic Code in order to participate on an FISW athletic team. The following rules and regulations apply throughout the athlete’s respective season(s).

1. Attendance at all published practices is compulsory. Excused absences can only be granted by the team coach. Athletes are expected to be punctual to practices and games. Regular absence or persistent lateness could result in less game time (as this time is allotted to students who are at practice) or dismissal from the team.

2. Athletes not attending school on a particular day will not practice or play on that day. Athletes out of school on a Friday will not be eligible for Friday competition, but are eligible for Saturday competition, if selected by the coach. Athletes not in school due to illness or an unexcused absence on a day prior to the team travel day may not travel.

3. Athletes must meet the academic eligibility and behavioral standards of the school as outlined in the FIS Middle School Student Handbook. Failure to fulfill these responsibilities may result in suspension from competition or practice for an unspecified period of time. Subsequent failure to meet these standards may result in dismissal from the team.

5. Smoking, any other use of tobacco products, and the use of drugs is forbidden at all times during a student’s season of participation.

6. The consumption of alcohol is forbidden throughout the duration of a weekend competition or the entire duration of a tournament. A weekend competition is typically defined as the period from Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon or until the team has returned home from away competition.

7. Photographic and video images may be recorded for coaching/research or ISST publication purposes, for example live video streaming, and only with the explicit permission and knowledge of the Championship/Meet Director as described in the ISST Handbook.

8. In accordance with ISST regulations and host country law, students may NOT engage in any illegal downloading or streaming at FIS, the host school or the host family’s home. The above rules and regulations apply to all student athletes, both those from the host school and visiting school. They apply throughout the weekend of competition or tournament duration including travel to and from the host site. Violation of these regulations will be reported to the Athletic Director and to the Middle School Coordinator. The offending athlete will be removed from the competition and from the host family home, and will either be placed under the direct supervision of his/her coach or sent home at the parent's expense.
